Godzilla Director Gareth Edwards to Direct Star Wars Standalone Film

 On May 22nd, the official Star Wars website released an article titled "GARETH EDWARDS AND GARY WHITTA ONBOARD FOR STAR WARS STAND-ALONE FILM."

British director Gareth Edwards recently directed the boxoffice hit "Godzilla." The film made over $90 million on opening weekend. Edwards teamed up with writer Gary Whitta for the film. Both Edwards and Whitta both have impressive track records within the film industry.  

Gareth Edwards has directed Monsters, Godzilla, and obtains a long list of credits for visual effects.  "Ever since I saw Star Wars I knew exactly what I wanted to do for the rest of my life -- join the Rebel Alliance! I could not be more excited and honored to go on this mission with Lucasfilm," said Edwards. starwars.com  Edwards is enthralled to be able to direct the upcoming film.

The subject of the film has not yet been released, but at a recent Hasbro event in Germany three possible names of the film were released. Solo, Boba Fett, Red 5 are the three possible names. 

The film is scheduled to be released on December 16, 2016.
